Introduction
This support site was created for the Old Testament History course in the RLAB class at Smithfield United Methodist Church (SUMC). The starting date for the class is January 20, 2008. Various support materials and information for the course are provided on this site.

Course Books
Main Book
The main textbook for all classes in this course is the Christian Bible. The English Standard Version (ESV) is the translation most commonly used by the teacher in the class. However, any of the translations in the Revised Standard Version (RSV) tradition are fine (as are any translations) for use. Thus, the suggested translations to use are:
Supplementary Books
Old Testament History
The secondary textbook is Old Testament Survey 2nd Edition by Paul R. House and Eric Mitchell (copyright 2007). People taking the Old Testament History Class are encouraged to get and read this book also. Coordinated reading assignments will be provided during the course.
Romans
The following links connect with various commentaries on Romans that might be of interest to people in the Romans class. All of the commentaries are in PDF format and may be read online or may be downloaded to be read from personal computers. For serious study, Robert Haldane and Charles Hodge are probably the best in this list. Haldane tends to be more expository and practical. Hodge tends to be more technical and erudite.
Exposition of the Epistle to the Romans by Robert Haldane
Commentary on the Epistle to the Romans by Charles Hodge
Preface to the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans by Martin Luther
Clarke's Commentary NT, Volume 6A Romans - Colossians by Adam Clarke

The Articles of Religion are an official doctrinal statement of American Methodism. John Wesley abridged for the American Methodists the Thirty-Nine Articles of Anglicanism, removing the Calvinistic parts among others. The Articles were adopted at a conference in 1784 and are found in paragraph 103 of the United Methodist Church Book of Discipline. They have remained relatively unchanged since 1808 (save for a few additional articles added in later years).
